We made applesauce in class today.  The students helped Mrs. Easter cut  the apples into chunks (they used plastic butter knives) and put them in the crock pot.  We added cinnamon, sugar, and water and let them cook for 4 hours.  We ate warm applesauce with half of a doughnut for our afternoon snack.  We copied the recipe down for our writing lesson.  Some students are able to copy from the board but most have a little trouble with this type of task right now, so we decided to share the recipe on our blog.

Crock-pot Applesauce-
10 large apples- cored, peeled, and cut into chunks
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup sugar

Place all of the ingredients  in the crock-pot, stir, and cook on high for 4 hours, stirring occasionally.  You can also cook it on low for 8 hours if you prefer.
Stir and mash the apple chunks until you get the desired consistency.

This keeps in the refrigerator for up to a week, if it lasts that long.  :)
