Most of us are all about the hearts and sweet sentiments this week and we wanted to get you in the Valentine Spirit. If you have not already done so, check out our Sign Up genius to see what we need for our party on Friday. I am happy to email the link if needed.
Also, we are in need of wet wipes and play-dough. We use these items quite often and our supply is almost gone. The students are able to clean their area with the wet ones wet wipes or baby wipes. They help get all the glue off of the tables so that I can go behind and disinfect with our Lysol wipes. We use the play-dough in our literacy and free choice stations. We are currently down to 2 cans of fresh play-dough. :( Any donations are appreciated.

Hello everyone. Long time no see...or write. I have every intention to blog each day with our kids but time slips by so quickly at the end of our day. So, at this moment, while the kids are all working on a sight word search, I thought I would get our blog in early.
First of all, you should have received two sheets of card stock with sight words in the blue take home folder yesterday. These are for you to keep and use however you see fit to help your child learn the sight words. I will send an additional strip today that has number words. If you wish to have an additional set, let me know.
Also in the folder is the 3rd Parent and Child magazine. In this magazine there is a promotion for Small Business Saturday which is November 29th. There is an offer from scholastic in this promotion that will earn two books for your child. All you have to do is fill out the form and tell scholastic about 1 or 2 small businesses you like to use and why. You don't even have to put a stamp on the postcard when you mail it in. WOW!!!
Finally, we are talking about the first Thanksgiving and what we are thankful for. Here are some of the answers I received from those who finished their work first. :)
Sadie "I am thankful for my toys."
Camryn- "I am thankful for making friends."
Kimberly- "I am thankful for my family and making dinner."
Angel - "I am thankful for my family."
Immanuel -"I am thankful for my mom and my dad."
Suri- "I am thankful for having a house."
Emma- "I am thankful for having a family."
Sung Sung- "I am thankful for a house."
Adrienne- "I am thankful for my cat."
Sui- "I am thankful for my dad."
Case- "I am thankful for my friends."
I am thankful for the opportunity to teach your wonderful children and Jenks East Elementary. I can't imagine a better place to teach.
Look for more thankful statements from the rest of the class in the days to come.

Happy Thursday. We have been quite busy and lost track of time on most days. We want to blog more often.
Donuts with Dads is tomorrow. Cousins, Uncles, Grandpas, Great Grandpas, brothers, or any other male family member who is 18 or older is able to join us for this event. We have this event on the first Friday of each month. We hope to see lots of you men folk tomorrow morning.

Next week is the 1st Annual Kindness Week at Jenks East Elementary.
Monday is going to be a bright day for us all. Have your child wear neon colors. It will be a flash back to the 80's for sure. :)
As part of the kindness week observance, we are accepting cans for the Jenks Public Schools can food drive. Jenks East Elementary is chosen as the sight for green beans. We are just that cool.
Finally, if you are still looking for a pumpkin to purchase for your child to decorate, I was informed by one of our parents that Walmart Neighborhood Market South of 91st on Delaware has the perfect sized pumpkins for $1.50 each.
Have a great weekend!

Case- "Yesterday we went on a hike." Emma- "We went on the trail." Suri- "The trail is in the forest." Sadie- "The forest is at school."
Yesterday Mrs. McCourt and I walked the students to Rentie Grove which is a nature preserve on our school property. We walked them along the trail in search of signs of Fall.
Some of the things we saw are-
Camryn- "Squirrels"
Kimberly- "Spider"
Angel - " Spider webs"
Lateef- "Spider web"
Sung Sung - " log"
Immanuel- "trees"
We saw many trees that are still green. However, a few of the trees have started showing off their beautiful colors.
We also picked up persimmons from the playground and near the parking lot. Some of the students helped wash the sticky goop off of the seeds and we let them dry. Today we cut them open to see if there were spoons, knives, or forks in the middle. According to the seeds and the farmers almanac, we are in for a colder than average winter with more snow than usual. YIKES!

We made applesauce in class today. The students helped Mrs. Easter cut the apples into chunks (they used plastic butter knives) and put them in the crock pot. We added cinnamon, sugar, and water and let them cook for 4 hours. We ate warm applesauce with half of a doughnut for our afternoon snack. We copied the recipe down for our writing lesson. Some students are able to copy from the board but most have a little trouble with this type of task right now, so we decided to share the recipe on our blog.
Crock-pot Applesauce-
10 large apples- cored, peeled, and cut into chunks
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup sugar
Place all of the ingredients in the crock-pot, stir, and cook on high for 4 hours, stirring occasionally. You can also cook it on low for 8 hours if you prefer.
Stir and mash the apple chunks until you get the desired consistency.
This keeps in the refrigerator for up to a week, if it lasts that long. :)
